Celebrating Happily Ever After Without Finger Wagging

Sometimes, a writer comes along who expresses what I want to say so much better than I can. No actually, OFTEN a writer comes along who does just that. My friend Webster Bull wrote a beautiful post called "Marriage of Sea and Sky" about his marriage.  I encourage you to read it and drop a comment in his box.

And dear reader, If you would indulge me for a minute, I want to climb onto my soapbox.

The common mentality would have us believe that all we need do to find Happiness is to make external changes: new home, new job, new spouse. And another equally misguided approach, one favored by many politicians, is to "defend" marriage against secularism.

I do not think all the finger wagging in the world will do a thing to alter divorce rates or the reluctance of people to marry their beloveds. If we want more people to consider the value to themselves (and to society) of a long marriages and lifetime commitments, those of us in long and happy marriages should share the Beauty we are encountering through many years of shared life together.

Thanks, Webster! Off my soapbox. For now.
