Painting the House, Guarding against Greed

You know how they say one's physical space can sometimes reflect one's inner state?

Well, here is what's been greeting us as we walk in the front door. See, we are having the entire inside of our small house painted. This means for the past couple of weeks we have been living with everything in our lives, all the years of accumulated stuff, away from the walls and into the centers of our rooms, taking up every conceivable horizontal surface.

I know we are darned lucky to have two jobs supporting this family and to be able to afford to have all our walls painted. But living like this has been a little difficult - trying to make dinner and help our younger son stay organized for school and so on while I navigate around all our worldly goods.

It's been terribly distracting. Before we put the pictures and paintings back on the walls, I plan to spend this weekend culling out what is not needed in our lives. Thanks to the paint job, our clutter has come out of  its hiding places. It's time to let go before winter sets in.

Then he said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” Luke 12:15

  1. We are doing the same thing with our bedroom remodel, only, we are getting rid of things as we put our stuff (mostly books) in boxes. It is making a huge difference and we won't have to trip over so much stuff!

  2. I would love to paint or do some remodeling, but too much stuff and too little money are the challenges of the day. Lots of food for thought here! Thank you!
