Three Generations of Men, Sharing a Name and a Destiny

About 15 minutes ago, my brother Rob shared this photo on his facebook page. He, my dad and his son all share the same name.

Each, I know, was called into existence by Mystery. My father, a retired surgeon, is facing physical challenges and the end of his years here on earth. My brother and his wife are busy raising three lovely and lively children. And my nephew Robbie is so young, so full of promise and good will.

“And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

  1. My brother is Walter Janaro III, and my Dad is still spry, but we never had a chance for a picture with all three because the eldest died in 1944 (my Dad was only nine years old). My brother and I know him only through pictures, some letters of his that my father has, and about mm30 seconds of film. Hewalked just like my brother. Being human is so fragile and humble and mysterious.

  2. Allison, I love this photo. Connection with the generations who have come before us is such a gift and so enlightening as we learn to know ourselves. Enjoy every moment you have left with your dad though I suspect you will feel his presence long after he is gone.

    1. Thank you May. I just spent four days with my folks and it is a privilege for us and our children to have their presence in our lives.
