Frosty Temperatures Call for Riveting Reads

Here in New Jersey, winter is settling in. In the past week, it's been well below freezing every morning. Tomorrow afternoon, there is a 70 percent chance of snow.  How better to prepare than to load up on books?

Today, in anticipation of a three-day weekend, I headed to a Barnes & Noble after work, bought myself a soy latte and three books I never have read. I will be spending the weekend with Truman Capote, Dean Koontz and J.R.R. Tolkien. Where to begin?

The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them –Mark Twain

O Day of days when we read! The reader and the book, either without the other is naught. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

There is no mistaking a good book when one meets it. It is like falling in love. - Georg Christoph Lichtenberg

See you on the other side of these adventures.

  1. I have Les Mis on the nightstand, but just finished reading The Rules of Inheritance by Claire Bidwell Smith. And there's the complete John Ciardi translation of Dante's Divine Comedy. No matter what the weather, I think I'm ready.

  2. I love the breath fogging blackbird! Also, I really should read In Cold Blood at some point (being a resident of Olathe).

    1. Oh wow. Well, it interests me because I teach To Kill a Mockingbird and Harper Lee was dear friends with Truman Capote (her character Dill was modeled on Capote).

  3. Wow that photo is amazing! I am really enjoying the Laurie King Beekeeping Series with Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes. I especially love the views of foreign cultures they travel to and the added vocabulary lessons when I read on my kindle!
